About this event
This lecture profiles the monumental task early pioneers encountered here in the unsettled wilderness along the Halifax River in the late 1880s, and chronicles the visionary men—John Anderson, Joseph Price and John Andrew Bostrom—who helped shape Ormond Beach’s “Gilded Age” era.
This program is presented by Ron and Alice Howell, who are reenactors, historians, and authors who have dedicated more than 30 years to researching and documenting the rich and profound history of Ormond Beach. The couple has written and self-published over a dozen local history books and served on several local historical organizations. Their presentations include historical memorabilia and well-researched facts, along with an assortment of film clips, flip-book shorts, and historical experiences.
This free lecture is part of OMAM’s “America at 250: Florida’s History Through Power, People & Place” series. Registration is requested as seats are limited. Free parking is available in the museum parking lot.
Funding for this program was provided in part by Florida Humanities with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities and a strategic partnership with the Jacarlene Foundation. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of Florida Humanities or its funding partners.
