- ➤ On Feb. 20, over 80 cybersecurity students competed in a capture-the-flag contest at Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus. The two-day event featured technical demos, recruiting sessions and poster presentations, with top teams earning $10,000 prizes sponsored by RTX + industry partners. - ➤ Volusia County officials advise residents to dispose of yard debris safely amid a burn ban as drought worsens wildfire risk. Those with debris are urged to bring it to a landfill or transfer station, especially in areas such as DeLand, De Leon Springs, and Pierson. News 6
- ➤ Two Volusia County Schools graduates were honored at the Tax Collector’s Office on Feb. 16 when Amanda Ellis received Employee of the Year and Amanda Murphy was named Supervisor of the Year in a ceremony recognizing their leadership and service. Hometown News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Water tests on Feb. 17 revealed elevated enterococci levels at the Dunlawton Boulevard Beach Vehicle Ramp in Daytona Beach Shores and the Toronita Avenue Beach Park in Wilbur-by-the-Sea—prompting the Florida Department of Health to advise swimmers to avoid the water today due to possible fecal contamination. - ➤ Trader Joe's has recalled over 3 million pounds of chicken fried rice after glass was found — four customers reported traces — and Daytona Beach shoppers are urged not to consume the product but to return it to the store.
