- ➤ Dana Rocque, a 20-year Coast Guard veteran turned truck driver, was hit by a distracted driver while fixing a flat tire on I-4 near Exit 111 in Deltona on March 31 — he remains hospitalized with traumatic brain injuries and cannot speak or walk. FOX 35 Orlando

- ➤ Two companies are asking to change planned development agreements to add Baer's Furniture and a Valvoline auto service center on LPGA Boulevard in Daytona. Baer's request increases building height from 35 feet to 60 feet and reduces parking and scenic overlay while the Valvoline waiver seeks glass garage doors—both proposals passed the Planning Board on April 24—and the City Commission will review them on June 4 and 18. - ➤ Conservation Florida held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday for the new D Ranch Preserve near Deltona, offering nearly 500 acres of protected wilderness for families and outdoor enthusiasts. The preserve is home to native species like the Florida black bear and eastern indigo snake — and it features a 3.5-mile trail system with plans for a nature center in partnership with local groups. - ➤ Florida's dangerous dog bill is headed to Gov. Ron DeSantis' desk for approval and will require dog owners to secure dangerous dogs by microchipping them, spaying or neutering them, and registering the animals in a statewide registry — owners must also carry liability insurance. - ➤ St. Johns River Water Management District officials say residents in east-central Florida must water lawns only two days a week as April rains fell far below 1 inch in Volusia and Flagler counties and burn bans are in effect.
