ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Last year, ocean temperatures were near record levels—running 5-9 degrees above average—but this year they are only 2-5 degrees above average, a shift that could ease the threat of rapid storm intensification. - ➤ The WESH 2 First Warning Weather team is urging Daytona Beach residents to prepare for an active hurricane season by building disaster kits and following local safety plans. Officials forecast 13 to 19 named storms and 3 to 6 major hurricanes and warn that heavy rain may cause flooding and power outages — with emergency managers advising new residents to be ready for severe weather. - ➤ Residents are worried after a Port Orange dump led to two raccoons having jars stuck on their heads, with one found dead near a retention pond.
