- ➤ On August 26, a 72-year-old surfer named David Coffee rescued a father and son from a rip current near Marianne Clancy Park in New Smyrna Beach after hearing their cries, and county officials reported both were fine. FOX 35 Orlando
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Embry-Riddle researchers have developed an AI system that turns pilots’ and air traffic controllers’ radio talks into text to help reduce errors and improve safety. The system uses speech recognition and natural language processing (via OpenAI’s Whisper) and has received $30,000 from the Boeing Center for Aviation and Aerospace Safety (to support future real-time tests). - ➤ Volusia County announced that all county administrative offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 1 for Labor Day while trash collection in unincorporated areas and disposal sites follow regular schedules.
