- ➤ Sam and Rayna Dunlop opened Ormond Collective on Sept. 13 at 58 W. Granada Blvd. in Ormond Beach as a new shop that blends retail and art. The owners plan to host creative events—like author talks and open mics—that give local artists a place to show and sell their work. Hometown News

- ➤ Boeing opened its Engineering Center at the Cici & Hyatt Brown Center for Aerospace Technology on Sept. 10 at Embry-Riddle Research Park, adding a 65,000-square-foot facility that supports design, research & prototyping for aerospace programs and is set to create about 400 high-paying jobs in Daytona Beach. - ➤ Today Volusia County Public Library offers free online tutoring via Brainfuse for cardholders—while the Miss America Organization partners with Daytona International Speedway to donate $10,000 annually for scholarships. - ➤ Isolated showers will decrease by 8:00 p.m. tonight as skies clear in Daytona Beach, and Tropical Storm Gabrielle remains active today but is forecast to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane on Monday (it may reach Category 2 near Bermuda) while no US impacts are expected. WESH
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Daytona city commissioners adopted a nearly $380 million budget that goes into effect Oct. 1—bringing a 4.1% property tax increase, raises for most employees, 13 capital projects worth $10.2 million, funds for community redevelopment, and property acquisitions for future commercial development. The budget also secures new pay steps for general staff and police officers through a collective bargaining agreement. The Daytona Beach News-Journal

- ➤ AdventHealth now offers the VELYS robotic-assisted knee surgery system at four key sites in Volusia County—this system gives doctors real-time images to aid precise alignment and has already helped over 200 patients with more procedures scheduled. Hometown News
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Habitat for Humanity broke ground on Legacy Woods at 1445 Flomich St on September 6—this new 6.35-acre community will offer 40 affordable homes, including some with solar panels leased to homeowners for 10 years at $93 per month. Donations, sponsorships, and $400,000 in state funds helped build the $2.5 million infrastructure for the project. Hometown News
- ➤ Townhouses may start construction in March at the corner of U.S. 92 and Tomoka Farms Road if Resibuilt Homes LLC’s rezoning request is approved by the Daytona Beach Planning Board (part of an 11-year, 228-acre project). The development will offer three townhouse models with three bedrooms each and include amenities (clubhouse, dog park, playground, and pool) alongside an internal access road to ease traffic.
