- ➤ Amazon’s new robotic fulfillment center in Daytona Beach uses hundreds of robots for packaging and sorting—processing up to 800,000 packages a day while creating over 1,000 jobs and promising faster deliveries for Volusia County residents. The 630,000-square-foot facility is Amazon’s seventh in Florida—marked by a $20,000 donation to support STEM teams in local schools this school year. News 6

- ➤ A super hiring event is set to take place at the Holiday Inn LPGA where employers from Volusia County will conduct on-the-spot interviews from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.—Daytona Beach residents can look forward to immediate job opportunities as they meet with industry leaders. WESH
- ➤ Vehicle buyers in Daytona Beach have until Sept. 30 to secure up to a $7,500 credit for new EVs and a $4,000 benefit for used vehicles as Holler-Classic Automotive Group offers 140 eligible models—this federal credit, introduced under the Inflation Reduction Act, will end after a Bill signed in July. Dealers are scrambling to attract buyers while adding extra incentives to move inventory before new models arrive. WESH

- ➤ Embry-Riddle’s Daytona Beach campus earned top honors from U.S. News & World Report yesterday, including a No. 4 ranking in aerospace engineering programs with a doctoral option+ it also listed as No. 1 for Most Innovative Schools and No. 3 for Best Colleges for Veterans among regional colleges. The campus, serving about 7,500 undergraduates, received ten top-10 awards that highlight its strong performance in teaching and research+ positioning it among the nation’s elite engineering institutions. - ➤ Volusia County Schools are installing AI-powered metal detectors in high schools to improve campus safety while minimizing disruptions; Mainland High School in Daytona began using the devices on Tuesday. The district will equip all high schools by the end of the school year and is seeking grant funding to extend the technology to middle schools. WESH

- ➤ A study found that electric car insurance in Florida cost $5,283 a year, which is 66% higher than the $3,189 paid for gas cars (a $2,094 difference) and Florida ranked 10th for EV premiums. Analysts said the extra cost comes from pricier repairs and hurricane risks, though the gap may shrink as cheaper battery models are introduced. WESH
