ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On September 24th, Conservation Florida unveiled future designs for the new D Ranch Preserve Nature Center in Volusia County. • Conservation Florida announced plans for a $2.5M nature center at D Ranch Preserve in Osteen that will protect native lands from development and offer classrooms, exhibits, offices, and a wraparound porch—construction is set to begin in 2026 with the center opening in 2027 while $400K still needs to be raised with matching donations.  News 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Florida cities and counties defended the rise in property tax revenue by presenting data that showed collections increased nearly 34% while spending grew under 20% to fund essential public services. • Law enforcement, paramedics, and hospital workers from Volusia County, Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, and Deltona Fire Rescue held an e-bike crash simulation exercise yesterday outside The Center At Deltona to improve their response to bike accidents. Officials said the training—prompted by a serious injury to a 14-year-old rider—will help teams work together for faster, safer patient transport in future incidents.  News 6
  • Residents in Daytona Beach’s Mosaic neighborhood have reported over 40 falls on slippery sidewalks built without proper drainage and inspection — city officials and ICI Homes will coordinate phased repairs that may cost up to $1M and rebuild driveway aprons to prevent more accidents.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
