COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Orlando Magic Youth Foundation donated $25,000 to SMA Healthcare Foundation to expand its Beach House Program for at-risk youth in Volusia County—this second grant supports counseling, education and family therapy services.  Hometown News
  • The city will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. on Oct. 3 to celebrate the restoration of Daytona Beach's historic Main Street Arch. The arch was built in 1936 during the New Deal and was restored with $934,000 in funds to continue connecting the Boardwalk to the Pier—an iconic landmark in our community.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
  • Six Volusia County Schools employees now have new affordable homes in Daytona Beach as Homes Bring Hope, VCS and local partners worked together to make homeownership accessible—celebrations on Fulton Street with community leaders marked the start of a new chapter.  Hometown News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Edgewater is attracting aerospace companies because it is close to the Space Coast and Daytona Beach. INCERTEC and a joint venture of Aries Capital and Onicx Group are building new facilities and planning phased expansions, with the first project set to open late Q2, early Q3 of 2026 — the investments will create local jobs.  Hometown News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Daytona Beach city staff presented a plan on Sept. 17 to hold temporary events on city property for food trucks—live music and wellness activities—and asked the City Commission for input on a permit process. They also approved rezoning for a Hang 10 Car Wash, changes to affordable housing codes, upgrades to City Island and Jackie Robinson Ballpark repairs, and set a higher property tax rate to fund increased public safety pay.  Hometown News
  • Volusia County government is holding free lifeguard workshops on October 2nd, October 9th, and October 16th at Daytona State College Aquatics Center from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm—training that will help those preparing for tryouts on October 25th at the Ormond Beach YMCA and October 28th at the Port Orange YMCA.  WNDB
  • Nearly 200 residents gathered at the Port Orange library on Sept. 24 to demand swift fixes for recurring flooding—county Chair Jeff Brower said that large developments and state law SB 180 limit immediate actions, leaving neighborhoods at risk. Some community members urged changes to local rules to protect homes from future floods.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
  • Votran celebrated 50 years of service on September 19 at its South Daytona headquarters as Volusia County Chair Jeff Brower and Transit Services Director Bobbie King addressed officials—joining FDOT representatives, Votran employees, and council members to honor the agency that launched in 1975. The bus service, offering fixed routes from DeLand to the beachside along with VoAccess and VoRide services, will look to keep the county connected into the future.  Hometown News
