Good morning, Daytona Beach. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 2nd of October.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Daytona's 33rd Biketoberfest will open Oct. 16 as the first major event after a court ruling made open carry legal statewide, and local merchants and fans have given mixed reactions over the change in gun law. Some business owners said they will continue with their usual safety practices while preparing for an expected crowd of about 100,000 riders and fans — urging caution as they adapt to the new rules.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
  • Halifax Humane Society stopped accepting strays from parts of Volusia County on Oct. 1 — its Daytona Beach branch still takes in animals from Deltona, Holly Hill, Orange City and Ormond Beach from noon to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Other local shelters adjusted their intake hours as new service points were set up, and residents are advised to check with their municipal offices for details.  Hometown News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS
