COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Our Lady of Hope Knights of Columbus Council 8086 in Port Orange hosted its first Wheelchair Weekend, raising over $9,000 to buy at least 60 wheelchairs that will give mobility to people in need—donations were collected during Masses and sponsors received a certificate with a recipient’s photo.  Hometown News
  • Daytona Beach is hosting its 33rd annual Biketoberfest, a four-day ride that began Oct. 16 and will continue through Oct. 19 as motorcyclists gather to ride and celebrate. Organizers stress safety in an event that brings together riders and their Harleys—creating a festive local atmosphere.  FOX 35 Orlando

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cristy Barnett Barrick, known as Cristy B, is relocating her Palm Coast comedy club to Daytona Beach at Suite 100, 242 S. Beach St.—where a larger venue will host top comedians and comedy classes as it awaits final city zoning approvals. The Club closed in Palm Coast on Oct. 4 and will open later in November once permit reviews are completed.  Hometown News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On October 9, the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Tourism Partner Day showed new local partnerships when Danny Wimmer Presents signed a contract to book acts at the Ocean Center and made a 10-year deal with Daytona International Speedway—moves expected to boost tourism as four to five acts are planned for the rest of the year.  Hometown News

  • Daytona State College will host its 31st annual gala—Boots & Bling: Kick Up Your Heels—on Thursday, Oct. 23 at the Hosseini Center at 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd., where guests will share dinner and hear student stories as Dr. Tom LoBasso is honored for his 10-year leadership. Palmer College recently celebrated chiropractic graduates and accepted new students for its summer and spring trimesters while Burns Science & Technology Charter School will hold the Wrangler’s Ball on Friday, Oct. 24 at the Brannon Center in New Smyrna Beach to raise funds for the school.  Hometown News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, cool mornings in the 60s give way to inland warming into the mid-80s while Daytona Beach’s coastal waters remain dangerous due to a high rip current risk and a coastal flood advisory in Flagler County at high tide—making beach and boating activities unsafe. Isolated showers may develop along the shore and such conditions will persist through Friday night.  WESH
  • Volusia County said a new sand berm built from Sunglow Pier helped protect coastal properties from high tides and rough surf, keeping damage to walkovers and railings minimal. County officials reported that repairs on the wooden Jetty Connector in Ponce Inlet are planned — with long-term fixes under federal review.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal

  • The Volusia County Council selected a 1.7-mile stretch of Daytona Beach coast between Williams Avenue and Seabreeze Boulevard as a potential dog beach. A new ordinance will be considered soon—Daytona Dog Beach Inc. has offered to cover start-up and maintenance costs.  Hometown News
  • Volusia County Transit Services Division will host public meetings to get rider feedback on proposed bus route changes that will take effect in early 2026—sessions will be held at the VoTran Office in South Daytona on Oct.20, at libraries in Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, New Smyrna Beach, and at DeBary Public Library, with a virtual meeting on Oct.21. Staff will be available at the Transfer Plaza on Oct.27 to answer questions while written comments are accepted until Oct.30.  Hometown News
