If you voted in Volusia or Flagler County on Tuesday, your ballot had a yes-or-no question on whether Florida Supreme Court Justice Carlos G. Muñiz keeps his job. Some judges on the Fifth District Court of Appeal in Daytona Beach were up for retention too.
Florida's governor appoints these judges, and voters then decide whether they stay on. The reports we had this morning don't include results.
- Retained: a majority votes 'yes' for another six-year term
- Not retained: a vacancy, filled through judicial appointment
- Muñiz: appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis in January 2019
- Newly appointed judges face voters within three years
The Fifth District Court of Appeal is based in Daytona Beach
| Court | Based in | Hears cases from |
|---|---|---|
| First District | Tallahassee | 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 14th circuits |
| Fifth District | Daytona Beach | 4th, 5th, 7th, 18th circuits |
