- ➤ Today, Daytona Beach residents can attend a free fire prevention night from 5 to 8 p.m. at Beach Street and Magnolia Avenue and a wine tasting fundraiser at 5:30 p.m. at the Ponce Inlet Community Center—other local events include a sealing and expungement clinic, community bingo at the Port Orange Adult Center, and upcoming museum exhibits, plant sales, parades, and volunteer opportunities across East Volusia. - ➤ A celebration of life for Sandy Burke Bishop will be held Monday, Nov. 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Mori Hosseini Center at Daytona State College—Bishop died Oct. 17 at 68 and was a longtime leader of the Volusia Building Industry Association and dedicated FBH Community volunteer. - ➤ Trader Joe’s will open Monday, Nov 10 in Daytona at Tomoka Town Center with a 9 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony—employees say the event may include fun giveaways. The new store is at 1511 Cornerstone Blvd—while nearly all non-perishable shelves are stocked, produce and grab-n-go areas are still being set up. Hometown News
- ➤ ALDI opened a new store in Port Orange on July 31 and now plans to convert the longtime Winn-Dixie at 2200 S. Atlantic Ave in Daytona Beach Shores. City officials said they are reviewing the permit application and expect the Winn-Dixie to close in late November—current employees may apply for roles at ALDI once a contractor is assigned. - ➤ Hard Rock Bet's mobile app now offers a game that looks like a slot machine—players bet on past NASCAR races by making quick or manual picks and see instant results with race stats. Congressman Randy Fine said he believes the game may breach the sports betting compact and could face legal challenges in court. News 6
- ➤ Aura Aero Inc. has opened its 11,000-square-foot assembly facility at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Research Park to start building its two-seat Integral aircraft—20 to 30 employees are working on setup as the company plans a larger facility at the airport in 2028 that will raise its workforce to about 1,060. - ➤ Pat’s Riverfront Cafe changed hands after owner Pat Snead retired on Halloween, Oct 31. Longtime employee Robert Gomez—who worked there for 29 years—will keep the same menu, hours, and name at the Port Orange eatery. Hometown News

- ➤ Volusia County Schools announced 70 nominees for its 2027 Teacher of the Year; the nominees will be recognized on November 17 at Melching Field in Conrad Park in DeLand. A committee will name the top five finalists before Thanksgiving and the winner will be honored on Jan. 10 at a banquet presented by FUTURES Foundation — sponsored by AdventHealth at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort. - ➤ Today, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach honors veterans by supporting their transition into civilian careers and promoting research and mentorship through programs like VSS and Faculty 4 Veterans — veteran instructors such as Dr. Bryan Watson lead efforts that build on the school’s top ranking as a veteran-friendly college. The institution uses its 100-year legacy to prepare veteran students for careers in aerospace and defense. Hometown News

- ➤ Joanne Magley said that the FAA-mandated 10% flight cut affecting 40 airports due to the shutdown does not change operations at Daytona Beach International Airport—today, nine flights are scheduled and 12 will operate on Saturday, while local groups have donated food to support federal workers serving without pay. - ➤ On Oct 29, Volusia County Coastal Division staff and Taylor Engineering briefed community members at the Daytona Beach Shores Community Center on a beach feasibility study that presented five alternatives with direct beach nourishment ranked highest—despite past beach erosion from hurricanes and storms.
