  • Rebecca Welch said her children now thrive after a hard year of rebuilding with help from Food Brings Hope programs that offered food assistance and tutoring through KidsZone at South Daytona Elementary. The family received a Thanksgiving food box that eased financial pressures and boosted the children's confidence.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Kroger said it will close its Groveland delivery fulfillment center along with facilities in Wisconsin and Maryland in January to speed up service and boost profit. The company expects a $2.6 billion charge this quarter and will work with Instacart — DoorDash and Uber Eats to improve online orders.  News 6

  • The lineup for Welcome to Rockville 2026 will feature headliners Foo Fighters, My Chemical Romance, Guns N’ Roses, and Bring Me The Horizon at Daytona International Speedway from May 7 to 10. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Volusia County Schools were picked for a pilot drone program called Campus Guardian Angel, which uses $557,000 in state funds to help respond to active shooter threats. The drones, stored on campus and able to reach any area in as little as fifteen seconds, will be deployed beginning early 2026 (supported by Superintendent Dr. Carmen Balgobin) and (backed by Sheriff Mike Chitwood).  WNDB
  • Lee Grant, a 100-year-old actress who was blacklisted during the Red Scare, said Florida's new teaching standards twist history and are a lie—she believes they misrepresent the fight against communism. The standards, which start next school year, require instruction that uses 'McCarthyism' as an insult and defends anti-communist views, state officials said.  News 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Volusia County will upgrade about 5 1/2 miles of New Smyrna Beach coastline — part of the South Berm Construction Project — by pumping dredged sand to rebuild dunes damaged by hurricanes Ian and Nicole. Residents near the work zone must email county officials to complete easements while crews shape the sand and plant vegetation to hold the shore stable as work begins in coming weeks and continues through mid-March.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal

  • Sheriff Mike Chitwood of Volusia County is using a billboard in Times Square to invite NYPD officers to move to Florida where they can serve a community that values them. He said the ad—paid for by the Volusia Sheriff's Foundation—comes as he criticizes New York's new leadership and local realtor Barrett Spray noted that officials expect a notable shift of personnel.  WESH
  • Daytona Beach officials presented early design concepts Tuesday+focusing on a major Main Street overhaul to boost walkability and activity. The proposals promise updated infrastructure+to enhance pedestrian access as the city plans further improvements.  FOX 35 Orlando
