- ➤ The Volusia County Farm Bureau’s Farmers Market celebrated 50 years on Dec. 17 at the renovated fairgrounds in DeLand — it serves families with fresh produce every Wednesday from 7 a.m. to noon with free parking and admission. Hometown News
- ➤ Phil Hall Park on Paige Avenue will open mid-January and feature six pickleball courts, an off-leash dog run, LED lighting for nighttime play, restrooms, and paved parking. The park is named for the late NSB Pickleball Club president who donated $15,000 plus launched the First Responders Pickleball Cup. Hometown News

- ➤ A new 24-hour McDonald’s opened along Ridgewood Avenue at Sunshine Park Mall, replacing a demolished bank in South Daytona. The restaurant features a modern design with digital kiosks and two drive-through lanes, and is part of local efforts to revitalize the U.S. 1 corridor. Hometown News

- ➤ New Smyrna Beach resident Marcia Harden walked from Daytona to the Keys beginning Nov. 1 and collected over 3,500 pounds of trash by Dec. 6. She urges everyone to help keep beaches clean and protect nature (a cause benefiting the local community). Hometown News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Volusia County launched VoTran On Demand, a new mobile app that gives local transit riders easier access to trip planning and paratransit services (including real-time schedules and reservations for VoAccess riders). VoRide customers will continue using the existing app until future integration. Hometown News
- ➤ Starting Sunday, Dec. 28, Volusia County will update transit routes in West Volusia, with revised times for Route 30 and 31, removal of a Route 33 segment, and discontinuation of Route 34 + the DeLand SunRail Circulator while signage and staff guide riders and holiday service will end in 2026.
