ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews began pumping about half a million cubic yards of sand from Rattlesnake Island onto the New Smyrna Beach shoreline this week to rebuild dunes and slow erosion; the project, lasting roughly 100 days, includes planting vegetation along five miles of beach + stabilizing the dunes. WESH
- ➤ Workers are adding tons of sand to rebuild the dune system along 5.5 miles of New Smyrna Beach coastline today. Drawing on a $25million grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, crews will pump 500,000 cubic yards of sand and plant vegetation while closing sections of the beach.
