  • Council Member Troy Kent will host an open dialogue from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12 at Michael Crotty Bicentennial Park in Ormond Beach, where District 4 residents may ask about local county initiatives.   • Loca Elotes has opened a new stall at Volusia Mall near H&M as the food court welcomes more independent eateries. The vendor serves street-style elotes and snacks (Mon-Sat: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sun: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) to boost Daytona Beach’s Mexican food scene.  Hometown News
  • La Fiesta Mexican Cocina in Port Orange confirmed their building is not for sale after a false social media post spread outdated sale information — Dahlia in Port Orange said they will remain as tenants even if their building, listed for over $4.2 million since August, is sold.  Hometown News

  • County officials will lead the first eco-buggy tour of Carter Quail Ranch on Jan. 13 in Smyrna Beach, offering a glimpse into the newly added preserve (Deep Creek Preserve nears 9,400 acres) and highlighting conservation efforts. Reservations are required for this free tour.  Hometown News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Florida Department of Health in Volusia County advised swimmers to avoid water at Lighthouse Point Park after a Jan. 7 test found Enterococcus bacteria levels above safe guidelines; the advisory was issued Jan. 8 for the park at 5000 S.   • Orlando-based firm Gissy Family Investments finalized the purchase of iconic Sunglow Pier plus Crabby Joe’s in Daytona Beach Shores in November. The company said it will begin preservation work on the historic pier and plan family-friendly enhancements soon.  Hometown News
