- ➤ Last night, Saturn appeared just below a waxing crescent moon (23% illuminated) in Florida’s western sky on Friday, Jan. 23. Local skywatchers chose dark sky spots, though cloud cover may have limited their view. The Daytona Beach News-Journal
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A man and his cattle dog (Rocky) were hit by a car in Daytona Beach Shores today and while the man recovers, Rocky ran off after the crash; he was last seen in the Chase Bank lot near the Halifax River and anyone who sees him should call non-emergency line. WESH
- ➤ A search is underway in Volusia County for Rocky, a 3-year-old cattle dog mix who fled on Tuesday after his owner was struck by a car near Bellemead Drive, and family members advise that anyone who sees him take a photo and note his location to call animal services. FOX 35 Orlando

- ➤ Embry-Riddle students clinched first place in a capture-the-satellite competition held on Jan. 15 in Orlando—defeating 51 teams by using a mix of classic orbital mechanics and AI. Their win highlights a strong local push in space and tech education. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

- ➤ Central Florida is set for near-record heat today — inland areas will see highs in the mid to upper 80s while coastal spots remain cooler from southwest winds. A cold front will bring showers late Sunday night and drop temperatures on Monday. WESH

- ➤ Volusia County Schools is selling 47 acres of land in DeBary at 25 Buckley Drive (east of Charles R. Beall Blvd, north of I-4 and near the Sunrail station). The district bought the property in 2024 to build an elementary school but later changed its plans due to safety issues. WNDB
