  • Cold weather shelters opened Monday across central Florida as residents face freezing temperatures. Lake, Orange, Osceola, and Volusia counties offer free bus rides and warming centers (the DeLand shelter operates until Tuesday morning) with more updates to come.  News 6

  • Applications are open for the Volusia Innovation Challenge (a contest for entrepreneurs and small business owners to win a $10,000 grand prize). Submissions are due Saturday, Jan. 31 at 11:59 p.m. with the event scheduled for Wed., March 25 at Ocean Center Convention Complex in Daytona Beach.  WNDB

  • Tomorrow marks the 40th anniversary of the Challenger explosion at Kennedy Space Center that claimed seven crew members, with the Central Florida community honoring the tragedy through the 'Forever Remembered' exhibit displaying recovered belongings.  WESH

  • Noah Escobar, an Embry-Riddle student, turned plane spotting into a photography career after filming a United Airlines engine failure at Dulles.   • After a brief warm-up, a cold front brought morning showers and freeze warnings were issued for inland areas in Volusia, Lake, Marion + Sumter; Impact Weather will affect Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday + Sunday as temperatures are expected to feel like they will drop into the 20s and 30s.  WESH
