- ➤ On Sunday, Feb. 2, the Coast Guard coordinated with the crew of an oil tanker to rescue three mariners from a 44‑foot sailboat taking on water in 20‑foot seas 450 miles east of Daytona Beach; all were brought aboard in stable condition early Monday. News 6

- ➤ Embry-Riddle researchers and 8 institutions will launch 2 rockets from Poker Flat, Alaska between Feb. 7 and 25 to study northern lights that recently reached Florida — the mission will create a 3D view of space weather that affects Earth’s systems. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

- ➤ Volusia County officials are drafting a measure to ban toilet-to-tap water recycling on the 2026 ballot after residents raised concerns over drinking treated sewage. The council will vote on March 3 on the proposal that could affect local residents in unincorporated areas. News 6
