- ➤ Volusia Recovery Alliance celebrated its new Daytona Beach location at 420 N. Halifax Ave., Suites 150 and 140 on Jan. 22 with a ribbon-cutting attended by community leaders and partners. The nonprofit now offers expanded recovery coaching, peer support and first responder services (boosting local access to vital resources). Hometown News
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a mariner from a disabled sailing vessel 75 miles southeast of Daytona Beach on Feb. 3 after torn sails left the boat stranded; he was flown to the international airport and then transferred to EMS with no injuries reported. WESH
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Grain and Berry, a fast-growing health eatery, will open its first local location at One Daytona by the end of March. The restaurant at 225 Daytona Blvd., which offers acai bowls, smoothies, and juices, will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Hometown News
- ➤ Smalls Sliders is planning to expand into Daytona Beach by seeking three new locations to offer its $2.79 sliders and combo meals in high-traffic areas. The franchise is evaluating spots to bring its fresh, quality menu to local neighborhoods later this year. Hometown News
- ➤ Wishbone Vintage at 237 Canal St. in New Smyrna Beach expanded its collection to include vintage bridal gowns and is set to convert the back room into a bridal showcase. Opened in August 2024, the shop has already seen 30 appointments and 10 wedding dress sales. Hometown News

- ➤ Daytona Beach will host its 85th annual Bike Week from Feb. 27 through March 8 with motorcycle races, art shows, and cultural events. The event features major activities including the DAYTONA Supercross at Daytona International Speedway — a highlight for fans— and gatherings downtown. Hometown News
- ➤ Art Attack Florida, a welcoming art studio at 793 S. Nova Road in Ormond Beach, offers art classes, workshops, and events for all ages. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held later this year (2026) to celebrate its community-focused mission. Hometown News
- ➤ Lake Helen resident Kimberly Justin sang with Rockin’1000 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Jan. 31. She said the show was a dream come true and that her love for rock songs comes from her mother (a former stage actress and singer). Hometown News
- ➤ Local poet Joseph Cavanaugh from Ormond Beach launched Poets for Peace in June 2024 to support Ukrainian orphans by publishing the anthology 'Sunflowers Rising' in May 2025+ the project raised over $11,000 to fund therapy and supplies at orphanages in Ukraine. Hometown News

- ➤ Port Orange student Janarose Holston earned a spot on Georgia Southern University’s Fall 2025 President’s List for academic excellence. Additionally, Daytona State College is ranked first among non-university colleges for online bachelor’s programs according to U.S. News & World Report. Hometown News
- ➤ Stetson University in DeLand will celebrate the rededication of Hulley Tower on Saturday, Feb. 7. The rebuilt tower—a $6.7 million project featuring a 52-bell carillon and memorial tributes to fallen students and veterans—will host a series of invite-only events throughout the day. Hometown News
- ➤ Eight nursing students at AdventHealth DeLand are joining a seven-week clinical training program called the Dedicated Education Unit, where they work with nurse mentors + build bedside skills in the orthopedic and medical-surgical unit today in partnership with AdventHealth University.
