- ➤ Daytona Beach resident Emily Munzberg started Local Steps to build community with weekly walks in east Volusia; in six weeks, the group gathered 425 Facebook members and typically meets with 30-40 walkers in the evenings. The group will hold its 10th walk in the first week of March and is planning a 5k to further boost community ties. Hometown News
- ➤ On Wednesday, Feb. 18, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church held an Ash Wednesday service on Main Street where Father Phil Egitto marked parishioners’ foreheads with ash as a sign of renewal. The event brought the church’s tradition to the heart of Daytona Beach. The Daytona Beach News-Journal
- ➤ Rev. Jesse Jackson, a civil rights icon who championed voting rights and NASCAR diversity in Daytona, died on Feb. 17—local leaders and Bethune-Cookman University now honor his legacy for advancing minority inclusion. The Daytona Beach News-Journal
