- ➤ Rev. Phil Egitto of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church held an outdoor Ash Wednesday event on Main Street on Wednesday, Feb. 18 (Mercy on Main) where people received ash services from noon to 7 p.m. and joined scripture services at noon and 6 p.m. The Daytona Beach News-Journal

- ➤ Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is testing a new AI tool — Navi AI — that gives student pilots detailed feedback from flight data and cockpit audio during training. - ➤ Volusia County has issued an outdoor burn ban due to severe drought, effective 12:01 a.m. today in Oak Hill, Lake Helen, and Pierson (outdoor burning is allowed only with Florida Forest Service approval); violators face fines up to $500 and up to 60 days in jail. The Daytona Beach News-Journal

- ➤ The FDA has warned seafood markets and restaurants in Florida that oysters from Stellar Bay Shellfish in Canada may carry norovirus. The oysters were harvested from Dec. 22, 2025 to Feb. 4, 2026, so customers with symptoms should contact a healthcare provider. News 6
- ➤ The Florida Museum of Natural History released its 2025 report showing that unprovoked shark bites dropped to 11 in Florida — 6 in Volusia County — below the five-year average. Global bite numbers nearly hit the ten-year average with U.S. bites declining over the past five years. News 6
