  • On Feb. 26, Volusia County Beach Safety introduced a rip current simulator at Daytona State College Aquatic Center that mimics ocean conditions and teaches proper escape techniques + the grant-funded device will support future community education classes.  Hometown News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Embry-Riddle researchers will test new drone systems over Lake Okeechobee this summer to collect water and air samples for harmful blue-green algae. The project is funded by a $500,000 EPA grant and is in partnership with the University of South Florida and the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation.  Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
  • A total lunar eclipse will turn the moon red today in Central Florida; it begins darkening just before 5:30 a.m. and reaches totality shortly after 6 a.m. — visible for about 45 minutes before it sets at 6:50 a.m.  News 6
