  • Hundreds of high school seniors will gather on Thursday for Senior Skip Day at New Smyrna Beach when police set up a Special Event Zone with tougher rules—doubling traffic fines and impounding vehicles that cause disruptions—to stop past trouble.  News 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Volusia County hired a consultant to plan how to spend taxpayer funds on projects like parks, art, and history through 2040. Residents can share their views in an online survey until March 28 and through focus groups—helping shape the next 15 years of spending.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
  • New Smyrna Beach city commissioners voted unanimously to raise City Manager Kevin Cowper's salary by 19% from about $195,000 to $233,000 and City Attorney Carrie Avallone's by 16% from roughly $189,000 to $220,000 after recent performance reviews—officials said the changes support strong local leadership.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
  • Daytona Beach officials installed four high-tech cameras at key intersections on Main Street—Halifax Avenue, Peninsula Drive, Atlantic Avenue and the Main Street Bridge—to boost public safety as police monitor live feeds at the beachside substation. Future cameras will be added along Oleander Avenue, Wild Olive Avenue and Grandview Avenue to further protect busy areas.  WESH
