Good morning, Daytona Beach. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 21st of March.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Gatto’s Family Delicatessen in Edgewater sold out of food two hours after its Feb. 25 soft opening, so the Gatto-Bellora brothers revised their hours to meet the big demand—now they will soon add a delivery service to help homebound customers enjoy their homemade Italian fare.  Hometown News
  • Daytona Beach will see increased traveler visits during Spring Break as events—jazz weekend from March 27th to 30th, art festival from April 5th to 6th, a college basketball invitational from March 22nd to 26th, and a cheer and dance championship from April 9th to 13th—promise to boost foot traffic for local businesses.  Hometown News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood and the family of an 8-year-old boy killed in a DeLand dog attack spoke in Tallahassee on Wednesday in support of the Pam Rock Act, a bill that would create a statewide dangerous dog registry and require owners of unsecured dogs to obtain liability insurance. If approved, the legislation will take effect on July 1 and also revise penalties for dangerous dog owners.  News 6
  • At a Wednesday night meeting, city leaders voted to request plans to add 35,000 square feet to City Hall for about $20 million by building new floors over the parking lot — the plan may be dropped if a state bill forces the city to use its extra fee revenue for stormwater fixes.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, the Florida Dental Association Foundation holds its 10th annual Florida Mission of Mercy event at Mainland High School, offering free dental care from 7 a.m. on Friday and continuing Saturday.
