Good morning, Daytona Beach. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 26th of March.

CRIME NEWS

  • A federal lawsuit in Holly Hill claims that former police chief Jeff Miller and former Capt. Chris Yates repeatedly sexually harassed women by touching them without consent and that the city failed to act even after Miller resigned in March—officials have not commented on the case.  WESH
  • Deltona man Myles Webb, 31, is accused of assaulting an Uber Eats driver on Feb. 22 after he refused to show his ID for an alcohol order; he faces battery and aggravated assault charges and is held on a $12,000 bond — Uber has banned him from its platform.  News 6
  • Deputies said a 29-year-old man was arrested on attempted murder charges after he attacked a man near DeLand at a transient camp in the woods, dug a grave for him, and left him in critical condition — the victim regained consciousness but faces long-term injuries and memory loss.  News 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Florida lawmakers are considering a bill that will remove work limits for teenagers who are 16 or 17 and allow those who are 14 or 15 to work without restrictions if they have graduated high school or study at home or online — supporters say the change defends parental rights while critics worry it may lead to abuse. The measure follows last year’s easing of child labor laws and comes as employers look for more part-time workers.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
