  • A weekly farmers market launched Feb. 15 at Tiki Docks in Port Orange (3633 S. Ridgewood Ave) and runs Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors offer produce, homemade goods, and live music, and an Easter Extravaganza with petting zoo and egg hunt is set for March 29.  Hometown News

  • WW2 ARMOR will host its free, third annual Volusia Valor Days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29 at the Volusia County Fairgrounds in DeLand—featuring over 40 military vehicles and a talk by historian William Hogan.  Hometown News

  • Gas prices in Daytona Beach have jumped from about $2.95 in February to nearly $4.00 on March 20, prompting officials to warn that rising costs may soon push residents to use transit options like VoTran & VoRide.  Hometown News
  • The U.S. Census Bureau released estimates showing slower metro area growth last year due to reduced immigration and natural increase — Florida communities like Daytona Beach lost residents as deaths outpaced births. EDUCATION NEWS

  • A custom-painted centennial Cessna 172 has arrived at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with founder John Paul Riddle's signature (a nod to its founding year) to honor its training legacy. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Volusia County officials are pumping 750,000 cubic yards of sand from Rattlesnake Island to expand New Smyrna Beach's shore this summer (using a sand-water slurry pumped via buried pipes) to protect sea turtle nesting areas before May 1.  Hometown News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Halifax Health hosted a March 25 event with a giant inflatable colon to raise awareness for colon cancer screening starting at 45.   • Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach was ranked No. 4 on USA TODAY's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards list on March 25. The historic ballpark has held baseball games since 1914 and is now getting a multi-million dollar upgrade to add new facilities.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
