  • A new retail center named Catfish Commons opened at the southeast corner of Dunlawton and Ridgewood in Port Orange on March 19 — three tenants, Foxtail Coffee Co., Axiom Bank and Revival IV Lounge, started serving customers while Farm Social is set to open in late summer. CRIME NEWS

  • Florida deputies captured 36-year-old Levon Coakley after he led a chase on I-95—his car overturned and caught fire during a multi-vehicle crash—before running into the woods following a shooting incident, and he now faces multiple charges including reckless driving.  News 6
  • Two teens were arrested after a drive-by shooting in Daytona Beach left a juvenile blind; 19-year-old Tai’shan Capell (one teen) and a 17-year-old minor (the other teen) faced charges including attempted first-degree murder with a firearm.  FOX 35 Orlando
  • 20-year-old John Oliphant III was indicted for first degree murder after allegedly fatally shooting Walter Floyd during a break-in on Butler Blvd in Daytona Beach on March 4th at about 4:00 a.m.—he remains detained without bond and faces additional charges.  WNDB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Volusia County Council will vote Tuesday on making the dog beach in Ormond Beach permanent—this pilot program began on Nov 1 and has seen strong volunteer support along with a few resident concerns about safety and wildlife, while officials plan to boost enforcement and lower costs. The decision will affect future use and expansion of similar areas across the county.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
