CRIME NEWS

  • Deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office investigated a shooting along Parma Drive in Deltona early Monday, March 31 — officials are still gathering details.  FOX 35 Orlando
  • Deputies responded to a call at 2:23 a.m. Monday on the 3200 block of Parma Drive in Deltona and found a woman who was pronounced dead, while a suspect who knew the victim fled the scene and was arrested an hour later in Flagler County after crashing his vehicle—authorities did not release details on what sparked the shooting.  WESH

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Volusia County Schools are hosting the Workforce Expo today from 9 a.m. to noon at Mainland High School, 1255 W. International Speedway Blvd in Daytona Beach — the expo will help juniors and seniors connect with local employers and learn key soft skills such as resume building, interview questions, professional attire, communication, and social media.   • Florida lawmakers are debating House Bill 13-67, filed by Representative Erika Booth, which aims to reduce high chronic absenteeism by requiring schools to report attendance four times a year & hold meetings with parents. If passed, the bill will set new attendance rules next school year to help keep students in class.  News 6
  • Embry-Riddle College of Engineering students (in the program's third year) will visit NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena from May 11 to 14 as part of an academic exchange.
