COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volusia County reopened Frank Rendon Park on Tuesday, Mar. 31 to restore public access after storm damage, offering most amenities and beach access while the playground remains closed until it reopens before Mother’s Day weekend (pavilion reservations open Apr. 6 online).  Hometown News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A surge in stranded sea turtles has kept rescue teams busy along the Volusia County coast, with volunteers recovering about 20 turtles in three days. Many of the turtles are tangled in seaweed and in poor condition, and they are now receiving urgent care at the Marine Science Center.  WESH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Volusia County officials expected heavy traffic in southeast areas during the Artemis II launch on April 1, and Titusville police boosted patrols to manage congestion while providing free access to over 60 off-beach parking lots for safe viewing along the Atlantic coast.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal

  • Bailey Developments is nearing completion on Bailey by the Sea, a gated condominium community with 32 upscale residences (90% complete) at 2360 Ocean Shore Blvd in Ormond-by-the-Sea.   • New York Avenue Apartments broke ground Tuesday in downtown DeLand at 225 W. New York Ave where Blue Sky Communities is constructing an 84-unit affordable housing complex with 13 units for residents transitioning out of homelessness, set for completion in 2027 under Volusia County’s Transform386 initiative.  WNDB
