  • Developers Lucas Cohen, Henry Cooper and Paul Moody of Beyond Bounds Studios won first prize at the Volusia Innovation Challenge on March 27 at the Ocean Center and received $10,000 to grow their immersive game Titanborn. The game—being the first fully voice-activated and animated multiplayer game using Vanilla Minecraft—will use the funding to add new services.  Hometown News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wildfire at Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge grew to 2,800 acres on Thursday, far larger than earlier estimates + fire crews reported 80% containment with plans for full containment by Monday while the refuge reopened to the public.  WNDB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Planning Board unanimously approved a 35,373 square-foot site plan for a Tesla dealership at Daytona Lux-Oasis—using access points on Hildy Boulevard and Mason Avenue to ease traffic on Williamson Boulevard. City officials will review the project at the upcoming City Commission meeting—after a required traffic impact analysis is completed.  Hometown News
  • Daytona Beach finished its first citywide Parks & Recreation Master Plan that will guide outdoor improvements for the next 12 years as city commissioners voted to upgrade Derbyshire and Tuscawilla parks and build new parks on the west side and beachside while considering community center upgrades.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal

  • Sixty-six of Florida’s 67 counties lack enough dental professionals and nearly half the state’s residents do not have dental insurance — many Daytona Beach residents lined up early at a local high school for free dental services.
