CRIME NEWS

  • A Daytona Beach woman and her Lake Mary boyfriend were arrested on Thursday and remain in jail without bail on charges of repeatedly sexually abusing a 7-year-old child over two years — police said investigators removed the victim from her home on Jan. 28 to protect her from further harm.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal

  • Volusia County reopened the International Speedway Boulevard beach ramp today — major upgrades include three lanes, new parking facilities, and bathroom amenities to ease traffic flow and boost the area’s appeal at The World's Most Famous Beach. Residents planning to drive on the beach or use off-beach parking should register for a free ParkVolusia permit.  Hometown News
  • Debbie Darino of Port Orange, known for her work on animal welfare laws including Ponce's Law, was honored as a Florida Hero on March 28 in Tallahassee. She is working on two new laws—Dexter’s Law to raise penalties for animal cruelty and a bill to create a statewide animal abuse database—that will help protect animals.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal

  • AAA conducted a 24-week study with over 1,400 drivers that showed smartphone apps with real-time feedback helped cut speeding by 13% and hard braking by 21%—most drivers kept their safe habits even after the messages stopped.
