  • The Daytona Beach Area CVB will host a community tourism listening session on Tuesday, May 13 at noon at Daytona Lagoon Premier Water Park and Family Fun Entertainment Center on Earl Street in Daytona Beach. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On April 7th, a 33 year old Ocala man was hospitalized after being struck while sunbathing near the Cardinal Drive beach ramp in Ormond Beach when a 61 year old woman drove her Jeep out of the designated travel lanes—she was cited for careless driving as the man sustained injuries to his thigh and arm and is in stable condition.  FOX 35 Orlando
  • A 33-year-old Ocala man sunbathing near the Cardinal Drive beach ramp was injured on Saturday when a Jeep—driven by a 61-year-old Ormond Beach woman—ran him over while backing into a parking spot around 10:43 a.m., and he was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  News 6
  • Coleson Janey, 33, was seriously injured and underwent surgery after a 61-year-old driver ran over him while he was sunbathing on the beach Saturday morning—EMTs reached him despite the EMS vehicle getting stuck in the sand—and the driver was cited with careless driving as the investigation continues.  WESH

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Florida have risen over the past week as AAA reported that the average climbed to $3.22 before dipping slightly to $3.19 — a level still above last week's average. Crude oil costs fell to below $60 per barrel on Sunday, which may help bring gas prices down in the near future.  WNDB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from Embry-Riddle produced a documentary on the Concorde that premiered on April 1 at the Mori Hosseini Student Union during Arts and Sciences Week, discussing its cutting-edge design and the tragic 2000 crash. An upcoming screening will be held Saturday, April 12 at 6 p.m. at Cinematique Daytona in Daytona Beach — the film is now being submitted to film festivals for further showings.  Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city hired ProQuest Pest Control to remove the bats from under the bleachers at Municipal Stadium by sealing off openings and installing netting—ensuring the bats leave safely before their maternity season. Workers will finish the five-to-seven-day process—completing it before April 15.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
