- ➤ A 270-acre wildfire burned Tuesday east of Lake Helen and Deltona in Volusia County—fire officials said it is 80% contained with no buildings damaged as thick smoke filled the air. FOX 35 Orlando

- ➤ Daytona Beach police reported a shooting early Sunday at 3:30 a.m. on Ontario Court that left one person dead and three injured — with two victims in critical but stable condition and the motive unknown. The Daytona Beach News-Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Volusia County opened summer camp scholarship applications today at 7:30 a.m. for children ages 5-14 and for special needs up to 17 from eligible families—scholarships cover up to $80 per week and apply to camps running from 6/2 to 8/8 as applications are reviewed in order of receipt. News 6
- ➤ An Embry-Riddle student team is building a compact emergency response aircraft called TALON (Technology for Airborne Lifesaving and Operational Needs) for the GoAERO competition with support from NASA and funding from the Eagle Flight Research Center in Daytona Beach. The project aims to provide an affordable rescue option in emergencies and will compete in a flyoff scheduled for 2027. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

- ➤ Volusia County Council voted 7-0 to spend $4.62M on 356 acres at 4845 S.R. 44 to set aside a wetland conservation area and possibly a public motocross facility.
