  • Former college football player Avantae Williams was arrested Monday and charged with second-degree murder after a shooting at McCabe's Bar in downtown DeLand that left a 32-year-old man dead and an employee injured—authorities are still seeking witnesses.  FOX 35 Orlando
  • The re-sentencing trial for the Xbox Killers in Volusia County continues—former Sheriff Ben Johnson discussed the case and legal experts expect the trial to conclude in the next few days.  FOX 35 Orlando
  • A Volusia County woman was arrested on May 6 for impersonating a police officer and issuing a fake parking warning on April 29 outside the Walmart Neighborhood Market at 3811 Clyde Morris Blvd.—She faces charges of false personation and unlawful use of badges with bail set at $3,000.  FOX 35 Orlando

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Volusia County Schools bought a 25-acre site for $8.4 million last month to build a new K-8 school at the corner of Spring Vista Drive and South Shell Road. DeBary officials argue the plan violates a 2007 interlocal agreement—while the district contends the site's zoning supports its public use purpose.  WNDB
  • Florida will ban adding fluoride to public water when a new law takes effect on July 1—Governor DeSantis signed the Florida Farm Bill citing health concerns, while dental experts warn that removing fluoride may lead to more cavities.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
