  • Winola Farm Beef is a family-run store at 601 Oak St. in Port Orange that offers pasture-raised, hormone-free beef and natural products. The store will move to a larger location in South Daytona at 2400 S. Ridgewood Ave early next year—adding a deli, expanded bakery and take-out area for local customers.  Hometown News

CRIME NEWS

  • On Tuesday night, Port Orange police said Daniel Lee Asseff, 60, allegedly shot two Walgreens employees at the store on Taylor Road at 5:26 p.m.—one employee remains in the hospital with a serious torso wound while the other was treated for a foot injury and released.  WESH

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Museum of Arts and Sciences will host its 44th Short Film Concert on May 16th with screenings starting at 7:00 pm in the Root Auditorium. Tickets cost $20 for members and $25 for non-members—doors open at 6:00 pm for a cash bar and seating begins at 6:30 pm.  WNDB
  • Welcome to Rockville returns at Daytona International Speedway from May 15 to 18 with over 150 bands performing on five stages, including headliners Green Day, Korn, Linkin Park and Shinedown. A free pre-party—for campers and hotel package guests—is scheduled for May 14.  Hometown News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Researchers at Embry-Riddle received a federal grant to develop training that helps first responders use drones safely in disaster scenarios. The program—sponsored by FEMA and led by a collaborative team—will teach emergency crews how to coordinate air and ground operations during critical incidents.  Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
  • Volusia County is taking control of the Business Incubator at Daytona Beach International Airport from UCF as the county plans to rebrand it as the Volusia County Innovation Hub after UCF operates the program until June 15th (a move that will yield cost savings and expanded services). Incubator Manager Connie Garzon will join the county's Economic Development Division to support local entrepreneurs.  Hometown News
