- ➤ Volusia County plans to buy 50 flood-damaged homes and tear them down to create stormwater retention areas—using part of a $130 million federal aid package recently approved. County officials said homeowners meeting HUD income guidelines will receive more details after HUD gives final approval—targeting neighborhoods hit hardest by recurring floods. WESH
- ➤ A new hurricane response bill headed to the governor’s desk will stop local governments from enforcing strict land development rules for one year after a hurricane — a measure that Volusia County leaders fear may undo recent stormwater and zoning improvements. News 6
- ➤ Volusia County Council passed an ordinance requiring owners of dogs classified as dangerous in unincorporated areas, plus Pierson and Oak Hill, to carry $500,000 in liability insurance.
