The Volusia County School Board voted on May 12 not to place a property tax increase for teacher raises on the Aug.
18 ballot, saying residents are already facing high costs (with many calls highlighting financial struggles). Board members agreed that now was not the right time for extra taxes.

Volusia County government announced on Wednesday that threatened shorebird nests from least terns and Wilson’s plovers were found on Daytona Beach near Disappearing Island, Bethune Beach Park, and Smyrna Dunes Park.
Officials urge beachgoers to respect barriers (do not enter signs) to protect these species.
🏛️ Government
Flagler County and nearby areas are under Phase III Extreme Water Shortage as announced by the St. Johns River Water Management District on Wednesday, with restrictions limiting irrigation to one day per week and suspending non-essential water use.
Residents + businesses must cut water use as the drought persists.
