Good morning, Daytona Beach.

Over Memorial Day weekend, Volusia Beach Safety made 35 rescues with 128 guards and two dozen lifeguard trucks (using data from past events to decide tower placement) to keep the beaches safe.

The county is hosting a lifeguard tryout at the Port Orange YMCA on Saturday, May 31, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. to recruit new team members amid a national shortage.

One year after being run over by a lifeguard truck while sunbathing on Daytona Beach, 19-year-old Sierra Trumbull said her recovery has been long, emotional — but her spirit remains strong.

Nearly 100 beachgoers were stung by jellyfish along Daytona Beach over Memorial Day weekend — local officials and beach safety crews issued warnings as they urged caution in the water.

Calvin Gilbert, 55, was arrested in DeLand on Monday morning after he allegedly fired a gun during an argument over a $5 drink outside a local bar and now faces charges of attempted first-degree murder while a judge denied him bond.

A 16-year-old riding home from his graduation party was grazed in the head by a stray bullet at 12:30 a.m. near Woodland Boulevard near DeLand—he was taken to the hospital in stable condition—and the Volusia Sheriff’s Office is offering a $10,000 reward for tips on the shooting.
