EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seven Embry-Riddle students and two faculty members presented research at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research in April in Pittsburgh — covering topics from computer safety to wildlife protection. Their work shows that mixing different subjects can lead to better classes and stronger defenses against online threats — an approach that may guide future studies.  Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Volusia Ready Response Corps drew over 50 residents at its first meeting announced Tuesday by the county government to boost readiness for natural disasters—inviting community members to serve as volunteers. An open house held June 5th at the Emergency Operations Center in Daytona Beach provided facility tours and an overview of volunteer roles—with further training planned throughout the year.  WNDB

  • The Florida Department of Health in Volusia County will offer free or low-cost mammogram screenings next Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the health department building on Holsonback Drive in Daytona Beach—residents can use the service to check their health.  WESH
