CRIME NEWS

  • Holly Hill teacher David McKeown, 47, was arrested Friday when police found 19 images of child abuse and 6 images of sexual acts with animals; he is accused of using AI to create these images and sharing his students' personal details—he is held without bond at Volusia County Jail.  News 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Volusia County updated its dangerous dog laws after mail carrier Pamela Rock was fatally attacked, and the changes double fines and introduce a new bite scale to judge severity. Council members approved the rules Tuesday, June 17 and they will take effect July 1—owners must now carry higher liability coverage and dangerous dogs causing severe bites may be euthanized.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
  • Volusia County’s dangerous dog list as of June 18 includes 19 canines from local areas such as Bentley, a great Dane from Ormond Beach; Kratos, an American bulldog mix from Edgewater; and Peanut, a miniature pinscher from Port Orange + others like Marley and Elijah Major, which show varying designation dates and missing status. County officials update the list as new details and past designations—dating as far back as 2019—are recorded.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
