  • On Friday, a 29-year-old Colorado visitor was struck by lightning while wading in ankle-deep water at New Smyrna Beach during a storm, and he died after receiving CPR+ emergency treatment.  FOX 35 Orlando

  • Dr. Albert Mosley has been named the eighth president of Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach—he will begin his tenure on July 7 after a rigorous selection process that included 135 nationwide applications and campus meetings with key stakeholders.  Hometown News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB 913 on June 23 to extend the condo inspection deadline to December 31—giving condo owners more time to pay new fees and allowing associations to finance reserve requirements. The bill also increases transparency by permitting electronic voting and requiring more state reporting for condo associations.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
