Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain have impacted parts of Central Florida today, with wind speeds up to 55 MPH + hail reported in some areas, and a developing low off the Carolinas is expected to boost rain chances ahead of July 4.

The National Hurricane Center flagged (off Florida’s southeast coast) an area for possible tropical development over the next seven days, though formation chances remain low.

Widespread rain is expected in Central Florida Monday through Wednesday.

Volusia County firefighters and the sheriff's office contained two 250-acre brush fires in the Maytown area by Saturday morning.

Maytown Road was closed and lingering smoke affected I-95 (no structures were threatened) as crews continued to monitor the area.
