  • Easterseals Northeast Central Florida will host its Lily Awards event on Aug 22 at 221 N. Beach St. to honor local contributions, and the Halifax Historical Society will present a look back at early Daytona on July 12 at the Halifax Historical Museum. Other events include a Holiday Market in Ormond Beach on July 19, SPCA pet clinics on July 5 at three locations, Port Orange volunteer recruitment from July 7 to 25, a free Shark Exploration Day in Ponce Inlet on July 18, vintage bingo on July 11, UF/IFAS Extension workshops throughout July, Charter Review applications accepted until July 18, and several Canaveral National Seashore programs.  Hometown News

  • Bam Bams Grub & Pub is set to open in October on Main Street after rezoning approval is secured, with owner Christian “Bam Bam” Boehm outlining plans during a June 23 meeting. He and his partner Angie Remines will offer an upscale two-floor venue featuring live music & a Kava bar experience to attract customers year-round.  Hometown News

CRIME NEWS

  • On June 20th, a shooting at South Turn Lounge Bar and Grill on Nova Road left three people injured including Tyler Greene who suffered compound fractures, and police arrested 28-year-old Anthony Kaznakoff—he now faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, and using a firearm while under the influence.  News 6
  • On March 8th, 2025, the Volusia Sheriff's Office arrested 28 members of the Mongols biker gang at a New Smyrna Beach RaceTrac station in connection with a shooting during a dispute with the Warlocks—four men fired guns in broad daylight amid bystanders at the gas station.  WNDB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • AdventHealth New Smyrna Beach announced the 2025 Ethan Wilson Memorial Scholarships—three senior high school students and one firefighter-in-training will receive yearly awards of $1,000 and $500 respectively as they pursue careers in health care or public service. Volusia County Schools also improved scores in English Language Arts, Math, Geometry and Biology on spring assessments and will get official state grades later this summer.  Hometown News
  • Local libraries plan many free programs in the coming weeks — including a comedy magic show at Daytona Beach Regional Library on July 8 and crafts, reading sessions and demos at other branches from July 5 to July 31. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today or tomorrow, the National Hurricane Center said a low-pressure area near Florida could develop into a tropical or subtropical depression and bring 2 to 4 inches of heavy rain to the west-central coast. An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is set to investigate today if needed+rain chances in Central Florida are forecast to be 60 to 80 percent from today through Sunday.  WESH

HEALTH NEWS

  • The UF Health Neurosciences Center at Halifax Health opened on June 25 to give Daytona Beach residents better care for brain and nerve problems—state and local leaders visited the new center on Clyde Morris Boulevard. It now accepts patients and uses modern tools for pain care and surgery.  Hometown News
