The Neighborhood Center of West Volusia broke ground in DeLand for Volusia County’s first transitional tiny home community to help people move toward permanent housing.

The $1.2 million project will raise additional funds to furnish and prepare the homes for future residents.

A Volusia County lifeguard received an electric shock when lightning struck his truck over the weekend as he helped a blind woman to safety; he was treated at the hospital and has taken leave from on-duty work (he is also a candidate for mayor in Ormond Beach).

Blue Spring State Park will require all day-use visitors to reserve their entry starting July 15 to reduce congestion and improve park access.
