ECONOMY NEWS

  • Last Friday, Central Florida Public Media raised nearly $200K from over 600 donors to help fill a $400K gap after a bill signed on July 24 cut government support for public broadcasters. HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals advises pet owners to keep pets cool during high summer heat by providing fresh water, shade, and avoiding heavy exercise—especially between 3 and 4 p.m. They also warn that pets may show signs of heat illness like heavy panting and drooling and should be quickly cooled to prevent worsening of their condition.  WESH
  • With school starting soon, optometrists say parents should schedule eye exams for children as young as 4 and even as early as 1 when there is a family history of lazy eye or nearsightedness to catch vision problems that can affect behavior and learning. Ophthalmologist Dr. Robert Melendez said children may quickly improve with new glasses—he warned that too much screen time and little time outdoors can worsen nearsightedness.  WESH

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Today as the heat dome keeps temperatures high, Daytona Beach locals have plenty of indoor options to cool off. Attractions like Daytona Lagoon, The Bin Spot, Daytona Aquarium, Sky Zone Trampoline Park, and local museums offer fun interactive activities for families—providing cool escapes from the summer heat.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
