- ➤ Palm Coast resident William Phillips, 33, was sentenced to life in prison this week after being convicted in July on charges of attempted first degree murder, attempted second degree murder, and possession of a firearm by a convicted in-state felon – his role in a March 18, 2023 Daytona Beach bar dispute that spilled near Bethune Cookman University left a 21-year-old man paralyzed and a 24-year-old woman hospitalized but fully recovered. - ➤ A California man and woman were arrested on fraud charges in Volusia County after they allegedly tricked nearly $500,000 from an Orange City woman by intercepting her tax wire transfer; Jason Hellawell was extradited from California and remains jailed on a $600,000 bond while Ariel Wang, who turned herself in on July 21, was released on a $350,000 bond as investigators continue tracking additional suspicious transfers.
