BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new First Watch restaurant will replace the former Peach Valley Café at 185 E. Granada Blvd in Ormond Beach and is set to open on Sept. 1—covering 4,800 square feet with an interior bar, a recessed patio, and over 160 seats while creating about 30 local jobs.  Hometown News
  • A mixed-use project called The Commons at LPGA will rise at the corner of LPGA Boulevard and Royal Country Boulevard if the City Commission approves a rezoning request from Norfield SRL LLC. The plan includes six single-story buildings that will offer retail and professional services with a walkable town center design—aimed at easing heavy traffic and meeting local needs.  Hometown News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Second Harvest Food Bank is accepting applications for its free, 16-week culinary training program—designed to prepare adults for entry-level jobs in food service—with applications due by Sept. 8 and the next group set to begin on Sept. 15.  WESH

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On August 27, state crews repainted the crosswalk outside Daytona International Speedway with plain white stripes to meet a state law; residents on Facebook posted over 150 comments questioning the cost and need for the change.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
  • Deltona City Commissioner Nick Lulli resigned his post on August 27th, saying he is no longer eligible to serve after holding office for 10 months. The City Commission has 30 days to name his replacement and his District 6 seat will be on the 2026 ballot.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
