  • The Campbell Hotel in Midtown Daytona is at risk of demolition after the city bought the condemned building and plans to tear it down because fixing it is too costly. Local residents have formed a group and the city is offering a 90-day window for proposals to buy and restore the hotel — local historians say a clear plan is needed to keep its community value alive.  News 6
  • The Flagler Tiger Bay Club voted on Friday, September 5 to keep Jay Scherr as president for the next four years and named new officers including first vice president Marc Dwyer, second vice president Dr. Joe Saviak, secretary Cheri Orr, and treasurer Jim Uveges. Scherr said he was honored to continue leading the club and will work with the board to boost civic engagement in the community.  WNDB

  • Daytona Beach officials plan to send letters to shop owners asking them to remove vulgar t-shirt displays after local artist George St. Pierre said the filth drives families away while a tourist called the items unique—Commissioner Ken Strickland noted a ban was dismissed because of First Amendment rules and some businesses already plan to take down the shirts.  WESH
  • The Volusia County Council approved a 200-page ordinance on Thursday that eases the review process for some business developments—reducing public oversight by allowing certain projects to move forward without full Council review—while several council members and residents voiced concerns about the diminished public input.  The Daytona Beach News-Journal
